Through Georgia's GAPP, parents and guardians of medically eligible children can be paid for approved personal support hours caring for their own child. This is a Medicaid benefit, not a job with Gentle Way. If you are already doing this work day and night, you may be able to be compensated for part of it.
What the Family Caregiver Option actually is.
The Georgia Pediatric Program's Family Caregiver Option allows a parent or legal guardian to be hired and paid by an approved agency to deliver personal support services to their own medically fragile child.
It does not pay parents for skilled nursing — nursing hours must be delivered by a licensed RN or LPN. Many families use both: nursing hours for clinical care, and paid caregiver hours for the daily support a parent already provides.
This is a Georgia Medicaid benefit for your own child — it is not a job opening at Gentle Way and it does not qualify you to care for other families' children. If you are a licensed nurse looking for employment with us, our nursing careers page is the right place.
Our flyer notes that the child must be between the ages of 5 and 20, be an active Georgia Medicaid recipient, and have a qualifying medical need with a physician order.
We cannot promise approval, a number of hours, or a pay rate. Georgia Medicaid determines eligibility and authorises hours. Anyone who guarantees otherwise is not being straight with you.

1. A real conversation
Call or message us. We listen to your child's needs and tell you honestly whether GAPP looks like a fit — no forms, no runaround.
2. Physician order
GAPP requires an order from your child's doctor for skilled nursing or personal care support. We request it and gather the supporting documentation with you.
3. Application & assessment
As an enrolled Georgia Medicaid GAPP provider, we submit the application ourselves. Georgia Medicaid reviews it and decides — we can't approve it or promise hours.
4. Care begins — and your first paid hours
Once approved, we train and onboard you for your own child's approved personal support hours, then support you with scheduling and documentation.

- Being paid as a caregiver is employment income and can affect household income calculations. We'll be upfront about that and encourage you to check with your benefits caseworker before you decide.
- Do I need a nursing licence?
- No. The Family Caregiver Option covers personal support services, not skilled nursing. We provide the required training and onboarding.
- Can both parents be paid?
- That depends on the authorised hours and Georgia Medicaid rules for your case. Ask us and we'll look at your specific situation.
- What if my child's diagnosis isn't on your list?
